Last class, we learned a lot about the telegraph from its original creation to its eventual downfall. The telegraph was originally created because there was a need for faster and more reliable communication, as the only way to have long distance communication at the time was “snail mail”. The telegraph was created during the industrial revolution, and it was a key part of the launch of long distance communication. Sam Morse, the creator of Morse Code, helped to create his version of the telegraph using electromagnetic waves and demonstrating it for the world to see. An analog telegraph would not be very useful because it would not be able to separate noise from the signal therefore not working very well. The invention of the telegraph allowed for faster communications and a more connected society, and it kickstarted many other communication inventions that would follow in later years. The telegraph fell because many new technologies rose that were faster and easier as well as cheaper to maintain.
