Not my brain...

Last class, we watched a YouTube video where Elon Musk was describing his new technology that he was looking for investors for, Neuralink. The device is a “brain-reading” technology that is implanted by a robot. It goes into the part of the brain that controls the intention to move, Neuralink said previously, adding that its initial goal is to enable people to control a keyboard or computer using their thoughts alone. To me, the concept is interesting, but something I could not see myself ever wanting or needing. However, this enws could be very exciting for someone living with a disability, as this new technology could be something that completely changes their lives. For example, someone living with impaired vision that is blind may feel extremely hopeful about this technology, as it could restore some level of sensory perception or motor function. If you’re blind, the prospect of being able to “see” through neural interfaces could be incredibly exciting. The same goes for somebody with paralysis, as the idea of regaining movement or control over your body could inspire hope for a more independent life. The Nueralink may seem scary to the average person like me, but this new technology could change people’s lives as it could help bring significant benefits to someone who struggles with a disbaility. Elon Musk and his team seemed very passionate and excited about it during their Q&A after the presentation, so hopefully the development of the device is going well for them.
